"Big Nothing" weather pattern

The "Big Nothing" weather pattern that has taken over the western
North Pacific for the past several years is about to create a modern-day record for typhoon season delay. If the 5th TC of the year is not numbered by the JTWC by the 6th of August, this year will be the most delayed typhoon season in the historical record. It seems that in these warmer times, tropical cyclone activity is going out not with a bang, but with a whimper.
